Dear Hazel,
Please forgive me if I ignore your own personal issues with re-election for the moment.
I was interested to read about the proposed constituency boundary changes in your newsletter. After the social genocide brought about by the recent closure of the city’s only remaining maternity ward, and the brief excitement caused by the BBC moving here, Salford’s identity is now taking yet another battering.
If the south-eastern areas of your ‘Salford & Eccles’ consituency (the parts that are not Eccles) are to be merged with ‘Manchester Central’, would it not be provident to rename that constituency ‘Salford and Manchester Central’? That would be correctly descriptive, would counteract any perceived loss of identity, and not only give us parity with our younger, noisier neighbours across the Irwell, but also put the cities in chronological order.
Yours sincerely,
baldmosher™
